Dairy Free Sweet Turmeric Sweet Potato Soup

The ultimate comfort!

Soup has a unique way of warming both body and spirit. The aroma fills the kitchen, steam curls up from the bowl, and that first spoonful can feel like a reassuring hug. This coconut cauliflower sweet potato bisque layers textures and flavors—sweet potatoes, cauliflower, apples, and warm spices—to create a silky, satisfying bowl without dairy or gluten.

Roasting the vegetables concentrates their natural sweetness and adds caramelized depth, while coconut milk gives the bisque a rich, creamy mouthfeel without cream. A blend of aromatic spices enhances the vegetables without overpowering them. The result is a balanced soup that’s both nourishing and indulgent.

Decadence that’s good for you

This bisque tastes luxurious but is built from wholesome ingredients. A high-quality bone or vegetable broth provides a savory backbone that lets each component shine. Turmeric, ginger, and other warm spices add complexity and a comforting aromatic profile. When you finish the recipe, the texture should feel thick and silky, not watery—thanks to the pureed vegetables and coconut milk.

Because there’s no heavy cream or roux, the bisque stays light on the stomach while still delivering a decadent flavor and mouthfeel. Season it to taste near the end of cooking so you can control the salt and pepper and let the other flavors come forward.

Coconut Cauliflower Sweet Potato Bisque, All Day Cooked Flavor

You don’t need to simmer this soup for hours to build depth. Roasting the vegetables does most of the work: it intensifies the sweetness of the potatoes and apples and creates golden, savory edges on the cauliflower and onion. For even roasting, cut vegetables into similar-sized pieces so they cook uniformly.

A spice blend like ras el hanout—featuring warm notes such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice along with bright coriander and cumin—pairs beautifully with the roasted vegetables. As the vegetables caramelize, the spices bloom and the kitchen fills with an inviting aroma.

Serve the bisque as a comforting starter, a satisfying main with crusty bread, or a simple lunch. It reheats well and is a great make-ahead soup for busy days.

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Stock pot or large saucepan
  • Immersion blender (or countertop blender)

Ingredients

  • 2 sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 head cauliflower, cored and broken into florets
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored and cut into cubes (Granny Smith recommended)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp ras el hanout (or your preferred warm spice blend)
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt, adjust to taste
  • 16 ounces Golden Broth (bone broth or a full-flavored vegetable broth)
  • 1 can lite coconut milk
  • Fresh cilantro for topping, optional

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. On a baking sheet, combine the diced sweet potatoes, cauliflower florets, cubed apples, and diced onion. Drizzle with olive oil and toss to coat evenly. Sprinkle the ras el hanout and kosher salt over the vegetables and toss again.
  3. Roast for 20–25 minutes, or until the vegetables are golden and the sweet potatoes are tender.
  4. Transfer the roasted vegetables to a stock pot. Add the Golden Broth and stir to combine. Heat gently to bring flavors together.
  5. Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth and velvety. If you don’t have an immersion blender, allow the mixture to cool slightly and puree in batches in a countertop blender, then return to the pot.
  6. Stir in the coconut milk and bring the soup to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
  7. Serve hot, topped with fresh cilantro if desired.

Notes

The Golden Broth used here adds a savory depth and nutrient-rich base; any good quality bone or vegetable broth will work. Using a high-quality, fresh spice blend such as ras el hanout or a similar Moroccan-inspired mix enhances the aromatic profile.

An immersion blender gives the quickest, creamiest result. If using a countertop blender, work in batches and allow the hot vegetables to cool for a few minutes before blending to avoid pressure build-up.

Storage: Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days. For longer storage, freeze portions for several months and thaw in the refrigerator before reheating gently on the stove.

Variations: Swap apples for pears for a milder sweetness, or add a splash of lime juice at the end to brighten the flavors. For extra heat, finish with a pinch of red pepper flakes or a drizzle of chili oil.
