Spiced Broiled Grapefruit is a quick, healthy recipe that transforms a simple Texas Red grapefruit into a warm, fragrant snack or breakfast. Broiling concentrates the fruit’s natural sweetness while a light coating of coconut oil and warming spices—cinnamon, ginger, and allspice—adds complexity without any added sugar. This easy preparation is vegan, gluten-free, and ready in minutes, making it an ideal option for busy mornings or a nourishing midday pick-me-up.

The vivid red interior of Texas Red grapefruit is naturally beautiful and full of vitamin C and other micronutrients. Broiling softens the segments and brings out honeyed notes, so you don’t need to add sugar. A tiny pinch of coarse salt at the end heightens the flavors and balances the citrus brightness with the warm spice blend.
Ingredients
- 1 Texas Red grapefruit, halved
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
- Pinch of coarse salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven’s broiler and position a rack about 6–8 inches from the heat source.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the melted coconut oil, cinnamon, ground ginger, and allspice until combined.
- Place the grapefruit halves cut side up on a baking sheet. Drizzle or brush the spiced coconut oil evenly over the exposed fruit.
- Broil for 2–3 minutes, watching closely so the fruit doesn’t burn. The top should be slightly caramelized and fragrant.
- Remove from the oven and finish with a light sprinkle of coarse salt. Serve warm and enjoy.
Notes & Tips
Broilers vary widely—keep a close eye during the final minute. If you prefer a deeper caramelization, move the rack slightly closer for a short burst of heat, but never leave the oven unattended.
Variations: swap coconut oil for melted butter if you are not vegan, or try a drizzle of honey after broiling for extra sweetness. For a citrus platter, broil several halves at once and serve with yogurt, granola, or toasted nuts.
Storage: Broiled grapefruit is best eaten immediately but can be chilled and reheated briefly under the broiler or in a warm oven for a few minutes. Avoid prolonged storage to maintain texture and flavor.
