What a year it has been.
Looking back, 2020 seemed to stretch on forever, yet it passed in what now feels like a blur. For many, it was a year of unexpected challenges, loss and hardship brought on by a global pandemic. I read so many of your messages on Instagram — thank you for sharing your stories with me. If you’re reading this now, I hope the coming year brings more calm, health and moments worth celebrating.
Despite everything, 2020 was also a year of small discoveries: new hobbies, new skills and a revived interest in baking for comfort and connection. So many of you told me that trying a recipe from this blog helped brighten a difficult day, and that truly made my year. I loved seeing your photos, hearing about first-time bakes and learning how my recipes fit into your lives — birthdays, quiet afternoons and everything in between. Your support encouraged me to share more recipes, answer lots of baking questions and even put together an e-book by the end of the year. Thank you for being here, for baking along and for making this community so warm.
Now, here are the ten most popular recipes from the blog this year — the ones you clicked, baked and shared the most. Each of these recipes proved especially well-suited to a year of home baking, many of them eggless or easily portioned for smaller households.
Mini Basque Cheesecakes
Published in August 2020, these mini Basque cheesecakes quickly became a favorite. Their dense, creamy interior and caramelised, slightly scorched top deliver a beautiful contrast of textures. The individual portions are perfect when sharing is limited — indulgent yet conveniently sized.
Homemade Bread Rolls (Eggless)
Soft, fluffy and simple to make, these eggless bread rolls were a top pick as many of us baked more bread at home. They’re wonderful plain, smeared with butter or dunked into a bowl of soup — a versatile staple that’s easy to master.
Fudgy Eggless Brownies
Creating a fudgy, crackly-crusted brownie without eggs took a few experiments, but the result is worth it. These brownies are rich, deeply chocolatey and achieve that perfect gooey center people love — an ideal recipe for anyone wanting eggless baking that doesn’t compromise on texture.
Homemade Eggless Donuts
With many shops closed early in the year, making donuts at home became a popular and satisfying project. These yeasted, eggless donuts fry up light and tender; choose a glaze or a cinnamon sugar finish depending on your mood. There’s also a chocolate variant if you’re craving a richer donut.
Baked Mango Cheesecake
This mango cheesecake strikes the right balance between creamy texture and vibrant mango flavor — perfect for summer or any time you have ripe mangoes to use. It’s smooth, refreshingly fruity and a favourite for mango lovers who want an elegant yet straightforward dessert.
Eggless Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies deliver the best of both worlds: crisp edges and a chewy center, all without eggs. They’re quick to prepare and perfect for baking a double batch to keep on hand for snacking or sharing.
Eggless Butter Cake
A tender, classic butter cake that serves as a reliable base for layer cakes, frosted treats or simple tea-time slices. The recipe includes notes on what worked in testing, making it easy to adapt with different frostings, flavorings or mix-ins.
Cream Cheese Pound Cake
This cream cheese pound cake captured a lot of attention and brought many new readers to the blog. It’s moist, buttery and just tangy enough from the cream cheese to keep each slice deeply satisfying. If you haven’t tried it yet, it’s an excellent cake to add to your repertoire.
Cream Rolls
These cream rolls are a more involved bake but well worth the effort. Light, flaky butter pastry wrapped around cones and filled with fresh whipped cream — a nostalgic treat that’s fun to make from scratch when you have time.
Wholewheat Oat Chocolate Chip Cookies
Posted at the start of India’s lockdown, these comforting cookies combine wholewheat flour and rolled oats for thickness, chew and texture. Chocolate chips work beautifully, but raisins make a lovely alternative for a slightly different flavor profile.
That wraps up the top ten recipes of the year. Thank you for baking along, sharing your versions and making this space feel alive. Keep experimenting in the kitchen, stay safe and I can’t wait to see what you bake next year.
